Collection: Père Castor, Stories from Yesterday and Today
Michka, Poulerousse, Roule galette, The cutest little mouse, The big black panther… We all have a Père Castor story in our hearts, a childhood memory, a moment of sharing between generations. In 1931, Paul Faucher, a bookseller and then collection director at Flammarion, invented the modern album, designed to focus on everyday poetry, imagination and invention. He surrounded himself with artists, most of whom came from the East and who were part of the Russian avant-garde. The book was desecrated and could be cut out, colored, folded. A "revolutionary" style was born in France! The collection was enriched over the years with tales and stories from all over the world that have become great classics of children's literature.
To celebrate the 90th anniversary of the publication of the first albums in the collection, the exhibition presents originals and first editions that trace the history of Père Castor, and also shows contemporary works by illustrators who make up the Père Castor of today.
