A prolific and inspired couturier, Christian Lacroix, born and bred in Arles, is a true Renaissance man: sewing, theatrical costumes, drawing, painting, decoration… From 1987, the year the House of Christian Lacroix was founded, to the present day, he has cultivated his creations, pushed boundaries, and looked to the future. Driven by his passion for books, classical literature, and theater, he took on the challenge of adapting Madame de Lafayette's novel, * The Princess of Clèves *, and embellishing it with a series of original drawings inspired by this novel, which has recently been at the center of controversy.
Should we read The Princess of Clèves ? The answer the fashion designer seems to give is an unhesitating yes. Christian Lacroix's interventions, which punctuate the text throughout the book, guide us through the reading of this novel by Madame de La Fayette, which has become a true emblem, a symbol of resistance.
