"Give me your month of birth and your day of the week so that I may better know your virtues and love you more wisely." Max Jacob to Pierre de Massot
Max Jacob (1876-1944), poet, novelist, painter, and a major figure in Surrealism and the cultural world of the first half of the 20th century, was also a great enthusiast of astrology. His encounter and exchanges with the astrologer Claude Valence (whose real name was Conrad Moricand, 1887-1954) gave rise to *Miroir d'Astrologie* (Mirror of Astrology ), published in 1949, five years after the poet's death. While Claude Valence deals purely with astrology, Max Jacob presents portraits of women of each sign, thus bringing, rather unexpectedly, a genuine literary pleasure to the reading of this manual.
Inspired by the color palette of the 1930s and 40s, Christian Lacroix draws both the bestiary of the zodiac and the women of each sign as described by Max Jacob. Throughout the book, he leads us on a journey of discovery into the esoteric world of Jacob and Valence's astrology.
